Jeffrey Pine cones are 4-8 inches (10-20 cm) long. They have a cylindrical or oval shape, with a tapering upper end. The cones are a dark purple color when young, gradually turning more pale brown as they mature. The surface of the cone is covered with scale-like leaves (bracts) that are large, and broad, with short, sharp inward-pointing spines.
