Norway Spruce Pine Cone

$66.00$136.00

The Norway Spruce (Picea abies) produces pendulous, egg-shaped cones with narrow necks and blunt tips. The scales on these cones are rigid, overlapping, and pointed, with a characteristic purplish-brown color when mature.

The size of the cones are typically 2-5 inches (5-13 cm) long and 1-3 inches (2.5-7.5 cm) wide. They have a cylindrical shape with a tapering base, resembling a slender cylinder. When mature, the cones turn a reddish-brown color, gradually darkening to a deep brown as they age. The cone’s surface features a tightly packed, overlapping needle-like scale pattern that is around 1 inch (2.5 cm) long and 0.25 inches (6 mm) wide. Each cone typically contains between 100-150 scales, which overlap each other to form a tight, compact mass. The cones take approximately 12-14 months to mature from pollination.

Cones come in approximate sizes of 4 to 6 inches long.
